All Aboard! The OCME Is Ready for You!

All Aboard! The OCME Is Ready for You!

The last few months, I’ve been not-so-quietly plugging away on a project with my good friend, The Mesa Maven, over at I Heart Costa Mesa.  We’ve been having a blast running around Costa Mesa, finding all the hidden (and not so hidden) jems that The Maven wanted to heart and shoot, but it’s been under wraps while she did her thing to get it up and live.  And now it is!  You can go check out that link for all her awesome goodness.  She even did a little post on me here, as her photographer.  She’s bound and determined to get me to move to Costa Mesa, and it’s kind of working.  I heart Costa Mesa, too!  We have met so many kind-hearted, genuine, generous, artistic, creative, driven, motivated people, it’s hard not to.

One of the first groups of people we were lucky to meet were the OC Model Engineers.  You can check out The Maven’s post about them here, she’s a much better writer than I am.  They give free train rides on their amazing little can-do trains around this gorgeous park in Costa Mesa.  Check out some photos, check out some websites, there’s more to come!  So excited to share this project with you!  It’s really opened up my eyes and my heart to what my heart loves to shoot.

The final field trip for March (that I took photos of).  We also took a trip to the Santa Ana Zoo last month.  Curren took a Bird Lab class that has gotten her interested in dissecting owl pellets (read owl vomit balls).  We’ve gotten her some, but you’ll have to wait until the April blog posts to see what that looks like!  This field trip here is the one we took to the Heritage Hill Historical Park.  Beautiful place!  Jordi’s pig tails make their debut here  😉  I noticed, yet again, putting these together, that I completely missed out on all the beautiful buildings they had there.  The schoolhouse was so cute!  Jordi had me running.  Go check it out if you have a free afternoon to browse!

March was SO full of field trips.  They were so much fun, the kids learned a ton, I didn’t even get to take pics at all of them like I wanted to because I was so behind on editing as it was.  I think March was the month I petered out and started wishing for summer.  Homeschooling has me HAD this year!  Ok, I still have enough in me to finish out the school year (Let’s go May!).  But wow, our learning and fun this year has been so incredible and fun and overwhelming and exhausting.  I am looking forward to a summer full of beach days and pool days and fun in the sun!  That should surely be relaxing right??

Here’s a field trip we took to Hidden Valley Nature Center last month in Riverside.  They got to make their own toothpaste to take home and use, even Jordi!  The kids were regurgitating facts for days after, and still tell me I’m putting rocks on my face every time they see me put makeup on.  I always think those are successful ones!  It was a gorgeous day out in nature with friends.

Onto another March adventure, whale watching!! This was so much fun, the kids had a blast. I probably blogged about our trip whale watching in April 2014, and we didn’t see anything while we were out, so they gave us vouchers to come back and try again. So here we went! We actually saw a whale, and tracked her for a bit, and some other sea life. It was a beautiful day to be out on the boat in the sun.  This was Jordi’s first time on a boat like this, she really enjoyed herself.  This was also our first day ever giving her a ponytail.  I was kind of obsessed with it, but saved you from all the pictures of it.  Haha!  It was adorable.  The other 2 wanted their hair up so it wouldn’t blow around, so Jordi wanted hers up, too.  It’s still too short, but we did what we could.  She has since moved onto some really darn tootin’ cute pigtails, which you will see in posts to come.
